My husband and I have 2 Mals. They are brother and sister, and are about 2 1/2 years old. I honestly believe they couldn't live without each other. We were only supposed to get one, a Mal for my husband and a GSD for me, but the second we went to "just look" at the puppies, Lily picked me and Cynder picked Keith, it was love at first sight. Mals are bread as sled dogs and although we take them on walks, it doesn't seem to get all of their energy out. Any ideas on ways we can help them feel like they are doing their job and releasing all of their pent up energy.
Casey, how can I post pictures of my Mals?
Thanks

I believe there is a post under "Rainbow Bridge" that mentions how to post pictures..
As for the Malamutes, ask the newly registered Wagnar's about their two big malamutes. They are now all but completely off leash trained. Even staying back in their heel, not pulling forward as to lead the pack.. Both Malamutes and Huskies are usually very independent, but we got them there! They will be in the "Out & About" class..
I have a client that mentioned that a very well known training facility in the area told her that her Husky will never be off leash trained..believe that? I think there is a Husky owner on this forum who now has exactly that!! |

| Your Alaskan Malamutes are gorgeous! And kudos to you for recognizing their need to burn off energy! A coworker's son has a 1 1/2 yr old female who digs in the dirt and jumps the fence and gets into other trouble, and I honestly believe it's due to lack of exercise and one-on-one attention/training. I wish working breed dogs came with manuals & people had to take training class or at least read a book before adopting them! |
