Does anyone clip their dogs nails at home? Or do you have the groomer/vet do them?
I recently got a Pedi Paw nail trimmer and I love it. It is battery operated and has a weak motor (but I consider that a nice safety feature).
Personally, I prefer a dremel to the nail clippers. Any thoughts? |

We recently purchased the PediPaws, too. We had always trimmed our dog's nails with nail clippers which worked okay. There was usually quite a battle with our German Shepherd who is the biggest baby ever, even though we had never cut her! Using the PediPaws has been great. There is no more holding her down or having to chase her as soon as she bolts after seeing the clippers.
Our other dogs don't seem as hesitant to have their nails clipped either and we can get a much smoother edge using the PediPaws. I really like the guard around the sanding surface, just in case the dog unexpectedly jerks, there is less chance for injury.
For our canine family, it was worth the investment and the extra time it takes to file the nails rather than clip them. Our 2 newest puppies, 9 months and 7 weeks, actually sit on our lap and seem to thoroughly enjoy the pedicure. |

| We bought a Dremel tool that has wide speed range, including one slow enough to use on dog toenails (and my husband's fingernails). We thought that way the tool would serve multiple purposes. They recommend only having it on the nail for 3 seconds at a time to avoid it getting too hot on the nail, so it takes more time, but it does seem much nicer than the traditional nail clipper. So far we haven't good about doing it often enough, so we use the regular clippers to lop off the majority of the extra nail, then use the Dremel to file it down more & smooth the edges. My husband is better at it since he's practiced on his own fingernails. |
